Hay Shire is a local government area in the Riverina area of western New South Wales, Australia. It is on the Sturt, Mid-western and Cobb Highways.
It includes the towns of Hay, Booligal and Maude. Banjo Paterson (1864–1941) wrote a poem called Hay and Hell and Booligal [3] about the district.
Hay Shire Council is composed of eight councillors elected proportionally. The mayor is not directly elected.[4] The current makeup of the council is as follows:[4]
